California’s San Mateo County, which lost $150 million in the Lehman bankruptcy, has filed suit against that company. Due to this financial hit, the county has had to cut back on the public services it offers. San Mateo alleges that prior to declaring bankruptcy, Lehman executives made “public statements about the company's financial strength while privately scrambling to save it from collapse.” While Lehman “publicly hid the company's exposure to mortgage-related losses, it reported record profits and gave lucrative bonuses to its executives."
